Who we are

Taiwhenua Pharmacy is an independent community pharmacy operating within the Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga Health Clinic in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. Though independently owned, we work in close partnership with the clinic to provide seamless, integrated healthcare for our whānau.

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is a family-focussed organisation providing health, housing, education and social services across Heretaunga. Using traditional kaupapa Māori values and culture, they — and we — attend to the hinengaro (mind), tinana (body), wairua (spirit) and whānau (social) aspects of wellbeing.

Our dispensary team combines professional pharmaceutical expertise with deep respect for the people we serve — ensuring every patient receives personalised, culturally attuned care, right in the heart of their community.

Our Services

Prescription Dispensing

Accurate dispensing of all prescriptions. Fully funded medicines are free for eligible people (under 14, over 65, Community Services Card holders).

Immunisations

Immunisation is the safest and most effective protection for you and your tamariki. We offer a range of vaccines in-pharmacy — no appointment needed.

Medicines Packaging

We repack your medicines into blister packs or sachet rolls showing when to take them — available as weekly or monthly packs to suit your needs.

Long-Term Condition Support

Pharmacist-led support for people managing long-term illness — coordinating repeats, providing reminders, and reviewing your medications regularly.

Medicines Use Review (MUR)

Our MUR-accredited pharmacists work with patients on complex regimens to improve understanding, adherence, and outcomes — with a report sent to your doctor.

Home Delivery

Can't make it in? We offer a home delivery service for medicines. Please contact us for details and any applicable charges.

COVID-19 Antivirals

We can supply Paxlovid (antiviral) by prescription, pharmacist assessment, or private purchase. Contact us as soon as you test positive or develop symptoms.

Women's Health

Emergency contraception (ECP), selected oral contraceptives without prescription, and UTI antibiotic treatment — all provided confidentially by trained pharmacists.

Stop Smoking Support

Pharmacy staff are trained to help you quit — providing advice, quit-smoking support aids, and nicotine replacement therapy.

Hepatitis C — Test & Treat

Free finger-prick testing for Hepatitis C, with follow-up blood tests and Maviret treatment if appropriate. No appointment needed for eligible patients 16+.

Warfarin Testing (CPAMS)

A quick finger-prick blood test in-pharmacy to check your warfarin levels and determine the correct dose — saving you a trip to the laboratory.

Safe Medicine Disposal

Return expired or unwanted medicines, needles, lancets, and syringes to us for safe disposal. Free of charge — protecting our community and environment.

Prescription Requests

Save time by submitting your prescription request online. Our team will process your order and have it ready for collection or delivery.

Allow up to 2 hours for standard prescriptions. We'll contact you if there are any issues with your request.

We receive your request Your request goes directly to our dispensary team at taiwhenuapharmacy@gmail.com.

We prepare your prescription Our pharmacists check your request and dispense your medications. We'll call if we need anything.

Pick up or receive delivery Collect from us at Hauora Heretaunga or arrange home delivery.
